More Coyotes

Bait and trap, then shoot. Set up at night and call them in with a predator call and get rid of them.

You can download rabbit in distress calls from the internet. Set up at dusk with the rabbit sounds and knock them down. Or allow trappers to come in and clean them out.

Got a trapper coming out this Wednesday to set some traps.
Hope he gets some. Heard some pelts are looking pretty good.

Had 6 of them in the yard!!!!!
Son shot at them with his .22 mag pretty sure he hit at least 3 of them. Said it was hard shooting and holding the spot light at the same time.
Trapper friend is coming up for a coyote calling contest.

this sounds cruel but it is very effective for coyotes.
get some hamburger meat and make two patties about 1 inch thick
and then take some old light bulbs and crush them fairly fine and
scatter over one of the patties then layer the other on top being careful
not to get cut. use an old spoon to put pieces around, the coyotes will find and eat
and the glass will do the rest. in my area we have a leash law so I dont worry.

Have the Coyotes killed some of your livestock or pets? Or do they just creep you out? I'm just wondering because here is my situation....... I have 2 packs living in the feilds/windbreaks to the North and South of my property, at times they get close and I'm sure my land is part of their territory. When I first moved here the sound of them creeped me out so bad I wanted to track them down and erradicate them. But it has been three years and haven't lost a chicken, rabbit, cat, or anything so I figured I have nothing they want. I hear them just about evey evening, and sometimes late at night, but my attention has been drawn to the rats and mice this year. They have done very well for themselves this past winter and summer I guess. There are so many of them! I wish the coyotes would kill n eat some of those. Can coyotes get into a chicken coop that is closed up at night? Or could they jump a 5' fence after the chickens are let out at sunrise if they were hungry enough? I'm closing the coop at night now that it's colder, but the last 2 summers I leave the door open 24-7. It is fully fenced in but the part where I first started is only 5' high or so, and kind of flimsy. The rest is 7' high and nice and straight. Have I been lucky so far, not having any predation by my Coyote neighbors?
Yes coyotes can jump fences or dig under. Whether they can get into the coop depends on your setup. I wouldn't leave the door to the coop open at night, regardless of time of year. The coyotes may have a good food source available and that is why you have not had any problems. But be vigilant, you don't want them to come in for an easy meal and then have to deal with them.

Here, I have seen coyotes during the day, early afternoon, coming from the front of the house when some of the chickens got out of their fenced area and were foraging up there. I have only lost chickens in the pasture, which is a little overgrown in places. The birds aren't allowed out there anymore.
