More rabbit neocropsy results from MSU

Someone else on one of the lists said she lost rabbits to the same problems. They were bloating and dying. She had them as well as her feed tested. They found something in the corn in the pellets. Not sure what brand it is. It caused the rabbits to get clostridium.

Ugh figures I am sorry but this has been going on for almost 2 years there is no way its coincidence!
if it was coincidence it wouldnt show up in spring and late fall.
Iagree its something environmental, something is causing it and the question of contaminated corn has come up before. again Feed Comapnies deny, threaten etc.

It kinda reminds me of the Ergot issue back in early settlements, no one thought a grain could cause such issues and had to be the work of witchs.
kinda like the same thing here, except the lay person is on a witch hunt not officials.

its so frustrating.

I agree they should keep the animals home , why risk infecting a whole show room that can contain up to and over 1,000 animals!
its very frustrating to watch your animals die because of someone elses ignorence. been there had a whole herd of Flemmish Giants have to be put down to Pasturella picked up at a Show.
talka bout a waste of money and heartbreak.

This disease or what ever it is, if it doesnt kill them quickly its a lingering and hateful death. I cant see why anyone wouldnt at least try to treat it or put the animals down humanely, lettiing them suffer through this for the sake of a healthier herd is unbellievably cruel

May I ask what brand of feeds may have concerns? If you can not post this info ... maybe send me a PM. I was just browsing & came across this subject. I own two house rabbits, so you can understand they are very dear to me. I do not show them or take them anywhere, so if it is airborne ... then I should be ok as they never go outdoors. Thank you for your time.

The ones that made my herd sick was manna pro, kent, manna pro sho, and pen pals. The only one not making them sick is plain old rabbit chow.

There is another person that got their rabbits tested as well, and they seem to have found e coli, like they did in mine. Buty they didn't mention wnat strain. I asked toget a copy of the results so I can send them to msu and see what they think.

It makes me really angry that these people are inconsiderate enough to do that. I am sorry but rabbit shows are not as important as the health of your animals. I lit into her pretty good over it, and got some people emailing me saying they agree. But of course there are people agreeing with them too. Ugh. Belive you me I voiced my opinion of how inconsiderate they were being with their animals and of others.

Its not been Feed specific honestly,

IF its a grain or grass product thats causing the problem ALL feeds can be involved at some point.

it has shown up in a lot of different feeds in the last 2 years. The only feeds I havent heard it show up in yet is Heinhold, Small World( walmart brand from Manna Pro)
and some of the local milled feeds.(ie: blue seal, agway, small grain stores who have their own brands, Why this is is still a mystery but with a lot more digging into it we might yet figure it out.

That lady on isrba took some rabbits to sandiego. She says her heard is healthy. The only thing she treated with is sithemethicone, and let 'mother nature take its coure' to weed out the sick. How can somebody do that to their rabbits! She says she is a well known, ethical breeder, and her herd is better for it. And she still blaming the illness causing the ME on the weather just because the ARBA vet says thats whats causing it. Im sorry but that is not ethical at all. That just shows me she sees those rabbits as commodity and nothing else. Hey if its sick let it die right?
