If they are actually responding to the sulmet, It has to be Coryza..Coryza is the only respiratory illness that responds to sulmet..........
The guy I talked to has a PhD in poultry and he is the head of the large research lab at UK...he told me that Sulmet acts as a broad spectrum antibiotic to treat the secondary infections that are caused by respiratory viruses. So I guess they could have IB or Coryza or any virus, but what's killing them is the secondary infections that develop and the Sulmet helps that. He said there was nothing that could actually stop the IB since it's a virus and not bacteria, aside from the IB vaccine, but the vaccine does no good once the birds have been exposed like all mine have.
By the way, just because I thought this was interesting, he told me that Sulmet has very little carry over into eggs according to their research, but it is still best to wait 21 days from the time you being administering the antibiotic before eating the eggs or meat.
I was hoping that the lab would call me this afternoon but they didn't. They said they would call within 24 hours, and that would be by 10:00 tomorrow morning. I'll update the thread and let you all know what they say! I'm impatient. :| I so wish I'd known that they did all this testing for only $10, I would have taken a dead bird in way sooner!
