Morel Mushroom and other hunters gather here!

OMG!!! I can't stand it!!! I love morels and haven't had any in years. I don't think they grow in the deep south but growing up out west we couldn't wait for spring to hunt the morels! How lucky you all are!!

Ok i live in KY. Was wondering how to tell that they are the safe mushrooms verses the one that aren't safe to eat.

I can't wait for them to pop! Found tons last year. It's been snowing (although not sticking) here the last few days so think it's still too cold, but i'm getting impatient to go start looking!

I haven't found morels in years. They were the first ones I looked for, way back when I was learning. Now I usually stick to Oysters and Chantrelles.

Try joining a mushroom society in your area, or find a knowledgable person to teach you. I caution you to not eat wild shrooms without being very careful. There are lots of similar looking shrooms out there. They can look different depending on where they grow. Fortunately there are not many that will kill you, but there are lots that will make you wish you could die.

Never have found a false morel here atleast. I've heard of them farth down south in the state. If I remember correctly there are true morels and their are false morels. Both look similar but the true morel is hollow from the base to the head. and the false morel isn't hollow at all. Might want to read up on them because I'm not 100% sure

I've also read that the false morels are not hollow from top to bottom. False morels also look like tiny brains..When in doubt, throw it out! (here's a website I found with some more info)

Yup! I did that with my first pheasants back LOL. We just stared at it for days then finally pitched it. The next year we got up enough courage to try it and it was almost as good as a morel!

Fry the morels up first the the pheasants back and some of the flavor goes to the pheasants back

Helps fill me up more!

I've eaten "false morels" The person teaching me told me to parboil them before eating. That destroys the toxins. They were good and I'm still here.

I agree with "If in doubt, throw it out"
Imp- Be careful
