Most humane way to put a chick down?

We have only had to put down one poult so far but the method we chose was to dig a hole (weather permiting) put the chick or poult in a bag and say your good buys. Place the chick in the hole and find a large heavy rock then drop the large rock in the hole on top of the chick and bury hole, just make sure the hole is bigger than the rock. We found this easiest because the chick was literally out of our hands It made it slightly easier. I have thought about cutting the heads off but cant bring myself to do it.

How do you know it died right away and you didn't just smash it's guts out and break every bone in its body and it laid there and suffocated to death?

Because the poult was tiny only a few days old and the rock was about 10 pounds. It woundnt have survived that. Plus the rock wasn't just dropped it was forcefully dropped.

I apologize, didn't mean to offend anyone. I don't see how its worse than cutting heads off. But to each there own. I was only sharing what I have done in the past and I hope to learn more while going into the future.

It's not worst, nor better. I really can't pick on you what this thread shows is how delicate we have become. ( not you granny).
I only believe deep down in my heart that before getting livestock, since many of us are not farmers we should consider that butchering, or euthanizing most definitely is necessary if it's obvious an animal won't make it. Sometimes even that is a tough call. I assisted in cutting the throats of lamb many times and it's a lot easier when your with someone who's used to it. Btw you don't have to swing an ax to cut a small animals head. And hitting a raccoon with a shovel didn't kill it. I wish, that was scary.
Having said that I'm not fond of stoning.
A chick you can snap the neck though. Very easy, sometimes they do that themselves if they fly off and hit a window.

Edit is your friend. I personally would never bag any animal, attach it to my cars exhaust and start the vehicle. Not only is is immoral and dangerous as all get up, it is a good way to get cited for animal cruelty. I'd like to see the sources you quote as that being "acceptable".

morality in this case is pretty much your OPINION. you can argue your OPINION but yours is only as valid as the next guy's

DANGEROUS? if cranking your car and standing by it is DANGEROUS to you, then you should never leave your bed... you're going to hurt yourself

animal cruelty... you can take your chicken to the middle of town square and beat it to death with a golf club for all to see. you MIGHT get a fine for littering. chickens don't have animal cruelty protection, they're POULTRY.
