Mother stopped caring for chick!

I noticed today that the mother hen stopped caring for her chick! The chick is about 5 weeks old and it just seems to young to be on it own! I feel bad for it, the mom just gives him the cold shoulder

Awww, its ok. At 5 weeks the chick should know how to find food and water....she is maybe just wanting to get back into the laying thing..and thats a good thing! Just make sure it has a warm place, and has food and water available.

That is when most hens stop caring for their chicks. By that age they know food and water and to go roost for the night. It often turns off like a tap. Hens don't stay motherly toward chicks as they grow up. This is a good thing. She is getting ready to start laying again and moving on.
