Oop, just re-read your post & saw you set them Sunday not Fri... well, we are still pretty close on hatch dates. Friday was actually my b-day, so my eggs are kinda a combo "b-day/mothers day" batch.
Oh, and what a NICE surprise from your hubby!!! My DH is a really good guy, but would probably think "Lavender Orpington" is some kind of new perfume fragrance or something!!
Do you plan on doing any candling? Keep posting progress if you have a chance, it makes these loooooong 3 weeks go a bit faster
I was expecting my usual pretty plant this year as always....which I would've been very happy with too but when I saw it was eggs I thought that was a really cool gift.....and then....I saw hinkjcs shipping label and I almost had a heart attack! I was like "WHERE did you get these? HOW did you get these?" LOL I had been going on and on and on about wanting to get some Lav. Orps so that is how he knew about it. I had shown him pics of her chicks and Lester on an auction she had up and he just waited until I was gone and contacted her to make arrangements. This has been the best Mothers Day I can remember...he even cleaned the kitchen last night
My batch I had a few weeks ago hatched a day early. They pipped on day 19 and hatched the next day.
I probably will candle. I have to know they are alive
Probably at day 7. I candled every day with my other batch but I might leave these alone more since this is an important hatch to me.
I love orps....all colors. I just have a yellow now with the lavs on the way. I would like some banty orps too though. Everyones pics of their lav orps are so adorable.
I know there are mixed opinions on candling, but I kinda got "sub-addicted" to it during my last hatch... I JUSTIFIED it by telling myself that the hen gets off the eggs once/day for first 18 days, so maybe a quick "cool-down/increased ventilation" (for GENTLE candling) is actually GOOD for them...
Which makes sense in a way, but was probably just me rationalizing my sub-addictive behavior
!!
Anyway, I'm sure I will be candling every now & then.
What a sweet/thoughtful DH!!! I WILL say that mine DID clean the kitchen, too yesterday
... Funny.
PS: Like your BYC page; I had a little buckskin mare "Minnie" that was pulled from a "kill pen" at 3 yrs old... we did trails & local barrel racing for years... I miss her to this day! (put down 2 yrs ago due to complications following surgery for navicular..). I also had the coolest, CHATTY, Timneh African Grey "Kobie" for many years...
