Mother's Day Lockdown

I went into lock down last night. Hoping it works have 7 Black Copper Marans and 5 Millies in there. All shipped eggs. Candling showed the millies are all doing well cant see the Marans so were winging it. Humidity has been at 35-40 and now I can only get it to about 64 or so. I have 2 sponges and the wells are filled with water. I have a borrowed Brinsea 20.

Good Luck to you!!!

They are a mix of lot of different birds! I am helping the kids in our classroom and they are excited and have been counting down the days. Each student picked they favorite color egg. Then we made an egg chart about development. They glued 21 paper eggs down first. Then we printed real images of chick development from day 1 to 19. They glued that down next. Then they selected their shell color to cover the chick and glued that so you can lift it up and "see" the chick. We have Wellsummer eggs so the kids that picked that color decided to dot the brown egg shell with colored pencil. They look pretty close to the real thing. Lastly we printed out count down day boxes to glue on the top of them all to help with counting - so they say Day1, Day2 etc. I planned it so they would be 21 days on Wednesday to cover any early or late chicks. Now we continue to wait.

Mike-Wow it was an exciting day!! I was met at the door of the classroom by one very excited boy. "There is an egg out!" he told me. What?? An egg? "yeah" and off he ran. A flurry of activity was all around the incubator to say the least. Yes indeed a chick was out (not an egg-LOL). Looks to be a Wyandotte. Through out the day we cheered and coaxed them along. We borrow a document camera and a projector and that way we were able to show what was happening on the wall for all to see. We had lots of visitors to our room - including the Supervisor of our school. In between meetings she kept coming back and checking the progress. We even had some Hearing visitors come to see our babies.
So --- when I left we had 7 hatched and I think 8 more pips. I believe we hatched today a SLW, a couple of Welsummers, a PR, and a couple of EE's and another I am not sure just yet as it was still damp but it was mostly black. Only 2 Mille's made it to lockdown

but I saw chicks in them so I am very hopeful on those. One was pipped before I left class.
It truly was an all science day for us. We talked about their life cycle and made a couple of projects about that. They got to color a picture of 4 chicks and they did their best to make them look like the 4 that had hatched. I got some very good questions from many people today, so I was happy to be able to teach and pass on my knowledge.
I am thankful most of all to you who made this all happen for us.
