Moulting???

I think my Dark Cornish is going through her first moult. At least I hope it is!

I noticed her feathers are getting a little thin around her neck. When I had her in my lap petting her, I was getting lots of feathers off of her. Not handfuls, but 8 or 9 each time I pet her. I also haven't gotten any eggs in several days. I checked her over really well for mites or any injuries, and she looks fine.

Does this sound like moulting behavior? She's also been a little grouchy lately, not wanting to be held, she's even pecked a little now and then. She's about 14 months old. I usually get 6 eggs a week from her.

From what I'd heard/read on BYC, that sounds about right. I'm hoping my adults wait until the youngsters start laying before they go into a hard molt.

Thanks y'all, that makes me feel a little bit better. I just thought that they tended to moult either going into Fall or Spring.

She's the only egg layer right now, so we are really missing her eggs!
