It sure is, especially when your not prepared for it. When we found out Milo had cancer I knew we were going to have to put him to sleep, but at least I had a few weeks to let it soak in. Same thing with Lacy, one of our Persian cats. She was 18 years old and had a horribly infected tail, we tried antibiotics but it didn't work, so I knew we were going to have to put her down, but I had a few weeks to let it soak in to.

Sadly, I've not had much experience with losing pets I'm close to. I've lost guinea pigs, hamsters an fish but that's nothing to chickens or dogs especially. I've never lost a chicken and dread the day I do but I would rather lose my whole flock than lose my dog whom I've grown up. Oh it'll be a sad day when Simba passes.

(I'm tearing up just thinking about it)
