Mountain Peeps's Chat Thread...Continued!

So, I need some help! We're wanting to start breeding rabbits mainly for meat soon, and need to start building some hutches/cages for our future buns. What do you have or find works best? This is to all you rabbit owner/breeders out there. :p

Aw, now I might as well go out and take a pic of Ollie's hutch! :gig his is the best one we have, by far.

:lau I'd appreciate it, whenever you can!

And btw my owl's name is Ollie. :p

XD that's funny.

So here is Ollie's hutch (short for Oliver BTW)

And here is it when kits open. The top opens up, too, which makes it super easy to get in-and-out of.

And here is the second best hutch, belonging to Crazy May XD it has a metal tray underneath, which makes it easy to clean.

We pasture ours, they all have access to fresh grass and greens. Our pens work pretty well, the breeder pens are 4' wide 4' long and 2 feet tall. The grow out pens are small chicken tractors. They do occasionally dig but not too often (most the time) however every once in awhile you get dirt happy kits but as long as they're friendly and trust you they're easy to catch. Our rabbits grow just as fast with the more space to run around. I can get pics tomorrow.

 My sister refused to raise them in hutches.

I didn't say the don't, they do but not too much and and not always out (though it does happen) but if they're moved every day or two then it is minimum. They usually only dig out if they are out of greens to eat. Or if they're getting close to kindle, I've had does dig 4' deep holes over night.

My dad ideally wants to raise them like that, but we'll probably have an area where they can pasture, and give them turns in hutches or something. I'd like to see pics!! Thanks. :)

I used to have my rabbits in a chicken tractor type thing, but they got out - digging and the fencing was weak enough for them to open it. My current doe can DIG. :th Thankfully she's a very good girl, and easy to catch!
