So, maybe I should get rid of my house cat and get a house chicken instead?

My house cat is a worthless mouser and we get mice in our basement and attic at harvest time because our yard is surrounded by cornfields.

yuk, I do hope all those icky things are well disgested and indiscernable(?) when chicken is presented for dinner. Oh barf, guess I won't eat chicken for awhile.

Ya mine love mice. They chase each other around like they are trying to keep there candy away form everyone else. They go nuts for them but only during the day time. When i see mice in the coop all the chickens just let them be. im like HELLO get it.

The easiest way to control critters from eating your chicken food is to add crushed red peppers to the feed, rodents won't eat it because it's too hot for them but poultry can't tell at all if it's spicy or not. I learned about this from watching a show about a bird sanctuary that was being over run by mice eating the bird seed, once they put the crushed red pepper seeds with the feed and then mixed it all up they were rodent free. I do this to my feed now and all is great.

Thanks for the tip! Will start that right away.

I've actually heard other posters here say the same thing. Apparently it's a natural buckeye talent. Who knew?

I've put up a thread on here when I was surprised to see one of my chickens gobble a mouse whole. She played keep-away with the others and they ripped the mouse to shreds. I was laughing really hard when I saw the tail hanging from her beak. Once, 6 mice came out of a hole and they ate every single one of them, a few of which were babies.
