I apologize if my comments sounded mean.
I tried to write a long response last night that explained myself better, and when I tried to send it, our internet went down.
I had, not even 5 minutes before the posting, read a story on the 'net about how this happened this week in a school in Kentucky. Believe me, I am aware schools are bad everywhere. The story hit a raw nerve with me, and I should have chosen my verbiage better.
I think anyone who gets to live where THEY are happiest is blessed.
And you're right... no matter where you live, the schools are bad, and our system seriously needs to be fixed. I just found it appalling that when this autistic child was locked in a duffel bag (the parents would have been arrested if THEY had done it), the school system didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it and that it is how they deal with autistic children they cannot "control" (newsflash, you can't control autistic kids--something that the school personnel would be aware of IF they had any clue as to how to APPROPRIATELY deal with kids with learning disabilities). It was business as usual to them. I just know how I would feel if I were a parent with a child enrolled in such a system that thinks that's okay.
There are no good/perfect answers when it comes to our children and the school system. There aren't enough good teachers or decent administrators, and the ones that ARE good can't seem to catch a break--budget cuts and pink slips seem to be the norm for many districts nowadays, unfortunately.
So yes, I am happy for the OP for getting to live where she wants! Didn't mean to sound so sarcastic... just the story of the kid in the duffel bag hit a raw nerve with me, as I was also a parent of a child with learning disabilities.
With all the bad things happening in schools, I am just grateful to no longer have any school age children, and I feel for those that do.
