Haha me either!!!! I had to look it up aswell! Very pretty bird.
I vote....dont kill the snake! Black snakes are great for keeping other snakes away! I have tons of them here..and they dont both me one bit!
Also if you dont want dead/injured chickens then secure their coops better! You are inviting animals onto your property with having chickens! So why kill them? but i love wildlife..i love listening to coyotes at night and i love seeing the fox...my coop is secure and i dont worry about my chickens..they free range duing the day when im home..otherwise their in their pen amd coop.

About five or six years ago the city of Fort Worth was so overrun with grackles that the city spent who knows how much money shooting off canon-type booms - in the middle of downtown, several times a day and during business hours, no less - trying to get the stupid birds to relocate. Awesome use of tax dollars right there - especially since, as you can imagine, the birds didn't feel like relocating...

I heard those sound-canons in several parking lots just over the last fcouple years. They are about enough to give you a heart attack! LOL.

It did make them fly around for a minute.

I posted to put in my two cents about how I would handle a snake or any other predator/nuisance in MY yard. Not to be ganged up on my a bunch of eco-Nazis...

Don't worry Bikerschick, these people have no common sense.
I find it telling that neo-tropical birds, birds that nest here and winter in Central America have been disappearing ever since the long tailed grackle invaded the nursery area of our native neo-tropical song birds.

This begs the question, which bird is representative of the passenger pigeon, the neo-tropical song birds which are disappearing as the baby bird devouring long tail grackle and feral cats expands their range?

Like I said, no common sense at all. Just emoting reactionary madness.

Then there is this sad tale about another Texan and how some of his fellow Texans think that feral cats have more rights than an endangered species and an adult human being combined.
