Muddy’s homestead expansion journey!

My honeybees would get on the ground during the winter gathering the fines from flaked corn as if it were pollen. The only time I saw them attack anything was a mule deer buck who couldn't wait and grabbed a mouthful of corn, bees and all. Looked like he got stung in the mouth and took out of there fast with bees chasing him.

It isn't normal for honeybees that are gathering pollen, nectar or water to attack.
We have a lot of honeysuckle around the trees out there…..i hadn’t encountered any before today though. I’m not exactly sure why they were in the hay either, but I’m guessing they attacked because the pigs basically walked through the hay they were in. I just happened to be in their escape route :th

I've only had yellow jackets do that.

Did it leave a stinger in you?

:idunno Maybe that’s why it still hurts? I washed both spots with epsom salt/vitamin C soap
The stings were on the front and back of my thigh so I can’t see them that well :th
If a honeybee stings you it leaves its stinger in you with the venom sac pulsing as it pumps in more venom. The object is to remove the stinger as soon as possible in order to get the least amount of venom.

If applied immediately a poultice of Baking Soda can help pull out the venom that has been injected.

If it was a yellow jacket or similar instead of a honeybee, it could sting you repeatedly instead of just once like a honeybee.

Sounds like you might have been stung before. 😩

Baking soda is always our go to for stings. You can also use crushed up tomato leaves. Well, most people can, tomato plants make me itch
