Muddy’s Meaties 2022

I am going back to the Royal broilers from Moyers hatchery. Haven’t found other broilers I like better. Probably get first batch mid-end of April if weather cooperates.
Thanks for the suggestion….I may order from them as well! I kinda like being able to mix/match the minimum and they also offer hatching eggs

We butcher Cornish Cross every year, but this year I'm trying Chanteclers. I really hope it works out for us. I'd love a self sustaining rotation of never ending meat birds.
Bresse did not work out for me, they grow too slow and tasted strange. 🤨

We used to get our Cornish Cross from a small breeder but we got a bad batch that was stunted and sickly a few years ago, and lost several chicks. So the past 2 years we got them from McMurray. They cost more there but they were healthy strong birds. I think we only lost one.

I picked up some cornish x at RK last weekend 6 were 2 weeks old and 6 3 day olds. 2 week olds went outside to coop and the littles went in the brooder. The older ones are getting way more difficult to catch and put to bed at night so I think they’re going to have to figure it out on their own :th

Yeah the Chanteclers are not going to work out for us. I contacted Cackle right away and told them that something was wrong with their legs. They said no one else complained and to give them ACV.
So... I'm done with Cackle. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Back to the drawing board. I just ordered and received 40 Cornish Cross from McMurrey. They sent 2 extra, but one died. I wanted them now so I just got all females, I still wait to butcher at 10-12 weeks though.

Time to start plucking some meaties! I moved them into the aviary while we were out of town and 5 older ones are already huge!
