Multiple Males Fertility Question...

Depending on your goals, you can go ahead and hatch some eggs during that "cleansing" period. Knowing some may be mixed breed, of course, but around here I can sell mixed breed pullets basically as well as pure bred birds. Especially if they're half Ameraucana (the mother), you can say the pullets will at least be EE, laying green eggs.

Just saying, it could be a way to get some chicks going. You may need to "test" the incubator before you have your money makers in there, you know...not that I'm an enabler or anything, of course

Ok, sounds like the general consensus is a month, so that's what I'll do. I was probably going to wait at least 3 weeks anyway, so that's not too bad. I just wanted to make sure, especially since mine are Ameraucanas and people can get a bit testy about their Ameraucanas' "purity", lol. I've already seen my guy mating with his girls, though, so he'll have plenty of time to practice before I start collecting eggs to hatch! Thanks for all the info, everyone!! I learn something new every day!
4 weeks is probably the 'safest'.

That 'testiness' is well called for.
Everyone in my area has 'Araucanas' because that's what the hatchery calls them and thus what the farm store that sells them calls them.
All of them are EE's....or as I compromise(and poke), ArauKindas.
I would not buy your Am's unless I saw very clear multiple pics of the parent stock.

Sorry if I offended. I completely understand the testiness...I had plenty of it myself when searching for true Ams initially. I was not at all making fun of anyone who wants to make sure they're getting the correct breed that they are paying for. I was just saying that it seems to me that it is particularly important that a breeder be sure about their ameraucanas due to all the misinformation surrounding the breed that confuses newcomers who think they're getting something they're not. That's all. Just saying I need to be sure my breeders have been separated long enough before I advertise them as anything other than EEs. And that's exactly what I plan to do.

No offense taken here...and hopefully not there either.
Should have marked it as a 'pet peeve mini rant'

I don't live close enough to AR to buy(I wish!) but would still like to see your birds if you care to post pics.

A poultry science professor at the University of Arkansas (one of the top three poultry science schools in the country thanks to Tyson being headquartered here) that specializes in poultry reproduction is a proponent of the last in – first out theory. He mentioned it in a talk a few years back he gave to a bunch of backyard chicken owners somewhere in central Arkansas. If I remember right, it’s on this video. The way I read his body language I’m not sure every poultry science reproductive specialist agrees with him, but he was really clear he believes it.

There are some threads on this forum that say fertile eggs have been laid for more than three weeks after the rooster was gone. How much faith do you put in that professor’s theory? I’ve never tested it.

Yeah, I think I have a few on my phone (not home right now). Let's see here...

I couldn't find any pics on my phone off my wheaten boy, Hugo, but I can post some later when I'm home. I'm loving my Ams. They're my favorites!

They're beautiful!

Thank you! I'm becoming obsessed with the Ameraucanas. I'm even thinking of getting rid of most of my other breeds to focus mainly on them. They're awesome birds with adorable faces and amazing personalities!! And Nora likes coffee....
