I have heard that the BLRW from MM are splash...I'm not sure if that's true though. Also, I know someone who ordered the dorkings. The hens were not great layers, but the roo is very sweet and pretty. I ordered 2 buttercups from them, but unfortunately they both died within days...:/ The rare exotic chick was sadly dead, but they are usually EE cockerels. Pretty birds everyone!

I've ordered BLRW from MMM twice. Both times, I received BLRW, not splash. Some were better colored than others (as stated in the catalog) but they were all exactly what I ordered. Nice hens, great mothers.

I ordered from McMurray last year (my first year) and had great results! All chicks were healthy and they sent an extra austrolorp and a free mystery bird. All female except for the free "mystery" bird. The mystery bird turned out to be male Buttercup and he was beautiful - although I gave him away.

I am ordering from them again this year. Below are buff orpingtons, white wyanottes, austrolorps - I also got barred rocks and rhode island reds. At under 1 year old all lay great and look beautiful.

I also am VERY happy with my McMurray birds. I ordered the Rainbow Layer special (25 sexed female and 1 SR "mystery chick")
I got a lot of leghorns (mostly white with a few brown and one red), 1 andalusion, 1 silver spangled hamburg (I LOVE this hen), a few partridge wyandotts (or rocks, I can't tell the difference), a few australorps, a few silver laced wyandottes, and my "mystery chick" ended up being a silver lakenvelder rooster.

And most of my leghorns started laying around 4 1/2 months old! They have now been laying for about 3 months and the leghorn's eggs are JUMBO sized! Crazy as they are such small hens and still so young! So I would recommend their leghorns anyday

Oh, haha, I just went through my pictures and remebered! I also got 2 easter eggers with the group (I gave them away as I didn't need them) and did end up with 1 cornish rooster (even though I ordered all females).
But my overall experience with them, EXCELLENT!

A little info on Murray McMurray. I received my chick a week ago (27 Jan 2013). I ordered 47 total chicks of various breeds. I even went as far as to call my main post office hub and ask them to call me and I would pick them up whenever they got there. I received the call at 11:00pm on a Sunday. I drove the 2 hours round trip to get them faster to reduce the stress....if I had waited to get them from my local post office...who knows how many more would have died. 2 of the chicks were DOA in the box when I opened it. Later that day 3 more died. And the next day 3 more died. 1 day after that I only lost 1. Also, I ordered 4 Golden laced Wyandotte's...they didn't ship them to me. Their was a sticker on the inside of the box that said they said they ran out. Now keep in mind I ordered these chicks 3 months in advance. So there's no excuse for not sending them.

OK, now I have 3 chicks with crossed beaks and 1 with an eye problem. I will probably cull them tomorrow.

I would suggest trying to find a local hatchery around you and buy them from there. I am not happy at all with McMurray. Although their people were very nice on the phone each time I called...I believe their chicks are sub-standard. Be prepared to lose a 1/4 of them due to death or sub standard breeding.

I'm just sayin....lol

I too received my shipment of rainbow layers and brown egg layers on January 27th, 2013 from McMurray. I ordered 32 and they sent me 43 (a smiley face said they threw in extras for warmth--the batch I received shipped out of St. Paul, MN when the temp was -8 degrees). They arrived 25 hours after being shipped in AZ, and I picked them up a half hour later. Every one was in great shape! It is now 2 weeks since I received them, and I haven't lost a single one. They are thriving and healthy, growing like crazy! I have never raised chickens before, so I expected some to die, but was blessed by their vigor, to say the least. I haven't figured out what they are yet (new to this) but they are gentle, quiet and very tame! Hopefully you all will help me when I get around to pictures!
