Muscovy keepers share your pics!

That is a beautiful duck miss Lydia!
Thanks, I have her mom too but she had already gone to bed when I came out with the camera. I have no idea how I got 2 barred when I have never had barred ducks before. I guess there was one in their lineage some where.

These are my babies.

True, I am amazed myself when I look at old pictures. But I still like his colouring, plus he has now feathers that are half black and half white.

Here is a picture of my smallest muscovy with the brown chest. She has not much changed, but it seems to me that the pattern on her chest is more defined than before. Is there any specific name for this pattern?

I need to train with the camera, those photos could be much better...
Agree with miss lydia, this is likely a black barred scovy.
This chest pattern is usually called "calico" but it's not an actual color and usually molts out. And some solid colored black and chocolate ducklings will get this color too.
I'll take some pics of mine tomorrow for comparison. I have some black barred hens with calico chests

My poor guys are covered in mud today. The snow we got all melted off and their area is nothing but a muddy mess. I want to move them in with the chicken and welsh harlequin flock for the winter, but until we get some serious snow I can't do it because the chickens will escape the run if there's not snow on the ground, and then I have to leave the run open to let them back in or they take to sleeping in the trees. I need to be able to keep the run closed to keep the scovies in because they still are tempted to wander over to the neighbor's - and the road - even with their wings clipped. Why they need to be over there is beyond me.

SO....

I let my chickens 2 Muscovies, Charlie & Nella out this morning for breakfast.
For the first time Nella (my female) ran excitedly down to the breakfast area, aaaand managed to get about 4 foot of air, eye balling me with a smug face and she cruised passed...
They're both 3 months old and have been running up and down my garden practicing flapping for weeks.

Am I supposed to clip her wings?

I live in a city (with a huge garden) there are foxes and dogs and cats, cars and people.
How rebellious do they get? She isn't particularly tame, inf act she screams (honks) when I try and each out to touch her

I don't want to lose her, but I don't want to mutilate her beautiful wings if she would stay anyway.
Her love, Charlie, is too big to fly I think. Would she leave him?

This is them :)
Not a great photo, Nella on the left Charlie on the right.

Muscovies are usually loyal to their home, some report that their birds went astray, though. Mine never took off for good, but mine are also rather lazy and barely fly at all.

It may be that your duck gets a little too adventurous and starts exploring the world beyond your fence. In that case, clipping would be adequate.

Do you have any leaves? i did this trick in my call pen and it worked! reduced the mud massively, my scovies all free range.
