Question on before broodiness. I've heard that the hens will store up eggs so lob some will go bad.
Can I stack lots of fake eggs in the nest to encourage her to actually sit, like a chicken?
I've just heard that many eggs go bad by the time she has the amount she wants.
Never happened here, they usually set within a timeframe where that just doesn't happen... not all eggs are fertile though so having eggs go poorly later on is possible. One thing i have also never needed to do is encourage a scovie to sit, if anything quite the opposite how to stop the bloody things!

I've never had eggs go bad, but you do have some options. You can place ceramic eggs in the nest to try and fool her. May or may not work. What you can also do is pull some of the eggs when she starts to brood. I have had hens hatch from 1 to 18 babies. The larger clutches were nests I couldn't find
