Welcome to Muscovy club. They get under your skin and straight to your heart right quick. They also multiply faster than you think. I started with 5 at first. Then someone gave me another female because it was the only Muscovy they had. Two weeks later l came home with a mom and 10 ducklings. I found a home for a drake duckling and 3 of his sisters at 7 weeks old. Then a week later l was given another 8 week old duck. Like l said, they multiply quickly. Enjoy!!

I do plan on breeding them. They are actually very uncommon in my area, I had to drive an hour and a half to find a seller.

Everybody gets nervous when they get into a different form of fowl. Ducklings are very, um, 'messy. They get water everywhere, throwing food everywhere and very wet poop always happens. For some reason, every time a duck gets into water they poop! It's like a 100% chance that sometime during a bath they will poop. After the poop sometimes they think it's something to eat..... you can see where this is going!


I like using a gallon milk jug with a space cut out for the ducks head to get in. Ducks are pretty nasty on the poop and messiness scale, but like I said in my other post, I do love muscovies. They are kind of nasty but worth it!

The first thing I thought when l saw the tom nuzzling the duckling was hmmmm...tastes like chicken.

I have a 2 week old muscovy. She is supposedly a 'she' and a chocolate?
I adopted Penelope after the owner lost all the ducklings to snow we had and said did not have time for her. I have hand raised Welshes, Cayugas, Swedish and Rouens but never a Muscovy.
What should I look for to confirm she is a duck or a drake without the dreaded venting?
Pictures of Penelope! So far she loves everything about the domestic life indoors including the belly rubs! She is very smart compared to all my other duckling I have raised. So far a very wonderful experience with a muscovy!

I’ve wanted muscovies for years but I could never find any in my area for sale. On Friday I finally found a breeder and picked up a couple of culls for $10 each. I got a 4 month old female and an 8 month old drake.

Here’s my duck, Maribel. She’s very skittish and mainly spends time with the mallards. She’s from a pied breeding program but she was going to be culled because she has some brown feathers.

This is Mortimer. He’s pretty tolerant of people and sometimes he’ll eat from your hand, but he doesn’t like being held. He usually hangs out with the geese or by himself. He’s a blue fawn but he was going to be culled because of the amount of white on his breast.
So far I like them a lot more than mallards. They eat less, poop less, and they’re prettier and more sociable in my opinion.
