Muscovy Questions

When it rains instead of my Muscovy paying in the rain or mud they stand stalk still like statues. While the Runners and B uffs are having a blast.
Yeah. Same here. Only I thought that was because they love it? If they didn't I would think they would run for cover? 😁

Thanks! I’m just worried about bumble foot becoming an issue. I guess as long as sanitary things are kept up there shouldn’t be any issues.
Bumble foot comes from cuts and bacteria getting in the cuts, not so much rain. I worry too, but not much can be done except for good husbandry practices and keep an eye out for issues. Observing your flock and making adjustments when needed is probably the most important thing you can do.

Mine love the water! I wonder if it is the water here šŸ˜†. The last time it rained, the Muscovy and my other ducks, fought me beak and nail about going to bed. When we flood irrigate, the Muscovy have a ball. I think that is mostly cause all the bugs come out from hiding in the grass. When we dump the water to refresh it, they always come running to wherever we dumped it.

On a separate note, Muscovy can still jump really high even when their wings are clipped. Mine have no problem going over a three foot fence. I could see them getting over a higher fence and have heard of them climbing fences. A couple of them would jump over the fence to lay an egg and then jump back. Once we incorporated the area, they stopped jumping over the fence. But they could leave at anytime if they choose to.

I left the house for a bit and had one of my Muscovy ducklings jump out of a box I had them in in the laundry room. They had to have jumped almost a foot high (I was impressed!). My spouse called me over and was like ā€œthere’s a duck behind the dryerā€ lol! Thankfully it didn’t seem to get hurt when it landed. Pretty active little bugger for not even being two weeks old yet.

Aha! Actually already had a pic of them on my phone. The three Muscovy I have are circled in yellow. Thoughts on possible colorations?
