Orange and white shorthaired cat, Leo, 6, reports that his mouse hunt was rudely interrupted today when a pair of huge birds, ”probably Eagles”, stole his prey. He said that he had been on the hunt for two hours, when he successfully nabbed a large long-tailed rodent. Just as he was starting to really enjoy himself, the birds he described as “Eagles with very large talons” attacked him viciously and stole the mouse-like rodent. Leo stated that he has video evidence of the “armed robbery”.

Upon reviewing the evidence, one bird appears to be a suspect in a cold “frog theft” case from 1 year ago. Authorities believe that the suspects are, in fact, Muscovy hens, not Eagles.

As in last year’s case, no evidence was present by the time the authorities responded to the scene, although one officer described the crop of the pied Muscovy hen as being “very large, positively bulging”.

Anyone who knows anything about the case is asked to contact the authorities.

Oh my gosh! I didn't know ducks would do that xD

I admit that I was shocked the first time I witnessed one of my ducks eat a whole frog. They really do seem to have a carnivorous streak. I used to have a mouse problem in my barn, but I think my Muscovies have made a significant dent in the population. It turns out that insects aren’t the only beings that need to be afraid of ducks! I won’t let Leo forget that he let a couple of birds steal his mouse!:lau

I just want to know how they get a big mouse down that tiny hole without having chewed it?

Well, I wondered the same thing, so I decided to watch!
It took about ten minutes (thankfully it was killed quickly). Once dead, my hen, who happens to be my smallest duck, moved it around in her beak, apparently breaking all of its bones. She took several trips to the pool so that it was nice and soggy. Once the poor thing was good and floppy, but still intact, she was able to swallow it whole, head first. :sick
She then drank a ton of water to wash it down, and was ready to go back to foraging!:woot
