Mushroom foragers

Our snow never developed that day. Thank goodness. But it was not a nice day. Windy and cold, sleety.

I noted that I had some Shaggy caps develop by my flower garden. Like what jerryse showed us. I did not pick or eat them.

Hey BC and Ralphie I found some hen of the woods today . Very fresh and clean . Had some with supper . Photos later . Still using DW's laptop . Mine should be back Tuesday .

I went out this morning walked for about 2 hours, no hens, lobsters or anything I recognized as edible.

I did find a couple of hens that were a week or two too old, they where nearing the goo stage.

I was hoping for one ;last hen, I guess not.

Heh, a short walk in the woods on the way home from an awesome get away gave up these little puppies. Yum. Not much but a nice end of season treat.

Picked more hen of the woods . How do some of you preserve these . I know some pickle them . Canning is possible I guess . I have about 2 bags full . Way too many to eat before they go bad .

With mushrooms most folks dehydrate them to keep them in storage for later. Reconstitute them with water. Although somebody gave me dried morels once and I didn't think they were as good as fresh. Like most things I suppose.

I have jars of dehydrated Chickens, Hens and Chanterelles we have been using them. They are not as good as fresh, but they are good. When we order a pizza (we usually get the "take and bake" ones because they are fresher out of our oven, we had the chanterelles to it. They are great on it.

I was going to go hen hunting this morning as we had some decent temps here for the last 5 days, (meaning above freezing) that streak ended this morning so hen hunting is out.

BC when do the Snowshrooms start producing?
