Thanks all for the input! My son's father in law is a local shroomer and he verified the find but cautioned me that some of the local chicken is less edible than others. His wife got numb lips and swollen tongue from a batch once that they attributed to an interaction with meds. Since I'm taking 3 different heart and blood pressure meds now, I think I'll just enjoy this one in nature and stick with the morels, puffballs, Chanterelles and shaggies. Those get me my shrooming fix through 3 seasons and I have eaten them for most of my life. BTW Bogtown, thumbs up on mushrooms sauteed in butter with a little garlic, salt and pepper (I love morels & puffballs sliced and cooked this way). I also like my morels sliced in half dipped in egg batter, dredged in panko or bread crumbs with itallian herbs and a bit of black pepper and fried with a little olive oil in an iron skillet. You can leave out the herbs for more morel flavor...either way it'll keep you in the woods until dark!
