Mushroom Hunters?

You are probably talking about puffballs, this is a common name that applies to a wide number of distinct species, some of which are edible, some mildly poisonous. None of the true puffballs are deadly; however, care must be taken to be absolutely certain that any puffball considered for the table is not the immature button of a toxic member from the genus Amanita, which can be quite deadly.

For more info check out the puffball page from www.mushroomexpert.com: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/puffballs.html

The only mushrooms I eat are the ones I buy. I don't trust myself to know a poison 'shroom from a deliciously edible one.

Coming home from the store today........I spotted a morel at the bottom of the driveway(it goes down into a steep ravine and up again) so of course, I jumped out and ran to it. The top was black and the bottom looked very old??? I was not familar with "black morels" so I left it? I looked around and found three smaller black ones but they were all damaged...
I read in our conservation magazine that if you find one look in a fifty foot circle as there will always be more. I went by that but found just those damaged ones. I had groceries in the truck so I had to leave

Lots to do back at the house so never got back there.

When you go without him, go to where he stomped that one. I bet there are a bunch. I got my cousin, who is an avid hunter, a spore bag. You put your mushrooms in it and the spores are able to escape through the mesh bag and repopulate (in theory) while you're walking through the woods.

So here I am...walking to a store though an area between an old strip mall in town, and find this growing right next to a building in gravel, plus more by a stump. Mind you, I go through the deepest woods and brush to find them... and there they were! Not many folks up here know morals.

I know very little about musrooms and had no idea that there was only a couple times of the year to find them. I want to go Morel hunting just to see if i can find a few. I live in NE KY. Is it too late to look for them where I am at now?
I live on a gravel road and have hundreds of acres of woods all around me.
