My $1 feeders

I've been plotting out ideas all day while I was at work and this is something similar to what I was thinking...but with the lid. What I was gonna use to cut the plastic is a hot pen knife, you can get them at most craft stores and work pretty well. I use them all the time for plastic things that are difficult to cut otherwise.

I like that idea... would they cut their combs on it? probably not.

cut their combs on the plastic after its cut you mean? Not if you run some sandpaper over the edge to smooth it out.

I only ask because I have had several roos with cuts at the back of their combs lately and I think they are doing it on feeders. The leghorn... I just don't know what he is cutting it on....

if its a concern you could always put down some sort of rubber guard on the edges maybe? There's all sorts of stuff like that at the hardware store.

you could always run a bead of silicone sealer around the sharp edges, and when it's cured it'd give a rubbery bumper to keep combs off the sharp bits.

That is a good idea too! I put up poultry netting today so let me see how that goes before I take on another project of cutting all those lids.
