My 4x4 Coop Is Almost Done ! Pics...See finished coop at the bottom...finished today ! YAY!

You might just go ahead and put the tarp half of the run so they can get the max shade during the day and in case it rains, the runs won't be too muddy unless you are moving it around.

Be sure to put some kind of lip where your floor is because the shavings can spill out when you open the cleaning door. something you can remove to clean. Chickens are scratchers, they push all kinds of things out of the way, spilling everywhere from underneath the doors, pop doors and it gets messy LOL!

Other than that, it will do!

I agree completely! Also do you plan on turning the nest boxes(milk crates) on there sides wheb its closer tp time for them to start laying? I would be a lil cpncerned with tour girls being able to get in... Im not sure what kind of birds you have but I know my buff brahma bantams can barely get there fat lil buts over the 4" lip into the nesting boxes I have! Lol

Thanks for the advice...actually, I was planning to leave the boxes upright filled with straw and hay. I used to have 2 RIR's years ago and they had no problem getting up into the boxes. I do have a pullet that had "issues" and cannot fly much so, turning on on it's side might be good for her.I have 4...one is an EE mix, 2 Marans and my special needs is a BLRW, she looks like a runt to me but is the sweetest little thing...

Very nice! I see you are using milk crates. Do any of your hens have a problem getting into them when tipped up like that? I am trying to decide if its better to lay them on their side or face up.

The chickens are all less than 3 months old at this point but I used to have 2 RIR's that had no problem getting into them. I'm hoping these wont either, right now, they do fly up and get into them with no probelms.

Congrats on your new coop!

Karen

Thank you

Ok so, I am going to clean the coop out once a week and put fresh shavings and hay in...should I compost the other shavings/poop? I have a feeling it will "pile" up in a hurry !

P.S. in my "other" life when I was young, I was a "pile-it" lol I used to work with TB's and I piled it here and piled it there !
