My 5 wk olds eat nothing but chick starter...refusing any scratch

Last week for the first time, I threw out a little scratch and my two Dominque chicks went for it right away and the Cochins just looked at it for a while and wondered if it was edible. After a week of throwing the morning treat into their run, all 4 of them start scratching up a storm and digging for gold. I only throw out a very small amount of scratch and some crumbles to give them something to do out there in the run.

Interesting to hear that your chicks aren't interested in scratch,

My Salmon Faverolles shunned scratch for the first week but eventually figured it out. The little brown seeds in the scratch seems to be the last thing they eat out of it. I also give black oil sunflower seeds(BOSS) for a scratch treat. It took them a while to like them. Now they think it's the greatest stuff ever. Good Luck
