My Ameraucana Hen/Roo??

I just noticed something about Mei and Sheena (the pullets) and its making me skeptical that Popcorn's a pullet. Their wings are kind of spread out with a big hump fluff of feathers in between them. But Popcorn's wings are close together and don't have that big puff of feathers in between the wings...

The problem is NONE of my chickens are laying-yet. And my cuckoo maran sheena is 5 1/2 months and no eggs yet.......

My Ameraucana's were almost 7 months when they started laying...talk about waiting

Illia, I love your new avatar - are all of those from your chickens?

Yes.

Special or private stock pure breeds usually start laying later than the hatchery breeds. Private stock are bred primarily for quality and actually start laying around when they should, where hatchery are bred for quantity and bred to start earlier and lay more eggs.

These are hatchery stock Easter Eggers

So I don't think this really applies, but the fact that each pullet may start at a different time than the other applies.

Pullets. I know what you mean by thinking they're roosters, though. I wasn't convinced mine wasn't a roo until 'he' laid an egg right in front of me. I'm still not changing her name from Buford.
