This is really really really weird!! I heard something like an egg song (bock bock bock BACAW!!) from Sheena, and later on I heard it again. But it wasn't Sheena, it was Popcorn!! Was it really an egg song?? Or what reason would she be so loud?
Might have been an egg song, even if she wasn't the one laying. For at least a week before she actually started laying, one of my hatchery EEs would hang out in the nest box and "false alarm" on an almost daily basis. She had me running in there to see egg color only to find no egg. Finally did lay a pretty green egg with brown speckles, though. She was about 25 weeks when she laid her first egg. I have another hatchery EE that is 27 weeks and I'm pretty sure she still hasn't laid an egg.
Those are both girls. There won't be any crowing coming from either of those chickens.
I know how you feel about the waiting for eggs though. I am trying to be patient as well and my girls just don't seem like they are ready to lay yet. Yours are a few weeks older than mine are, but I have heard people say that sometimes they even wait until 28 weeks or more to start laying.
I'm not sure I can be that patient for that long, but I will try my best. LOL
