My bad experiences with some chicken breeders

Hi there teaton

I am so sorry for your loss and that you have been through this and agree with QueenMisha that calling them “breeders” is a long stretch

I understand why people buy birds from these places because if it was me, I would want to buy them all, just to rescue them. However, if people continue to buy, they will continue to produce.

In my opinion, the best way to put them out of business is to walk away with your money and do what you have done, report them.

Granted, the outlook for their current birds is not good but at least they will hopefully not be able to keep producing and selling unhealthy birds.

That is so sad. So sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing. I went to a "farm" today trying to get some female quail and it was so gross. All quail, chickens, ducks and whatever else they had there were living in rusted nasty cages in the dirt. He tried to sell me birds that were obviously sick and had bad Bumblefoot and missing toes. I was so sad for them and was wondering who to call. Now I know so thank you.

Good for you! If everyone who seen something like that and reported it we'd all have much healthier birds! Hope they can also do something to him as well, people should be ashamed of themselces keeping any animal in such conditions! Let alone trying to run a buisness and selling animals like that, so sad!

@spydertoys Thanks alot for doing this to me, my farm and those babies... Shame on you!!!
First of all..I was not aware of any sickness. I would NEVER knowingly sell a sick bird! I have been in business for almost 10 years and have a HUGE following. You have totally exaggerated the barn conditions, but it is a very old barn and not very pretty. I am glad you notified the State Vet or I would not have known that my birds were infected with Micro Plasma..often there are no symptoms. They found no visibly sick birds when they came to test them.

I am sorry for your loss but it is nothing compared to mine. I lost every chicken, turkey, peafowl, and guinea I had..the ducks and geese tested negative, thankfully. My financial loss was staggering..that should give you some comfort. One thing you didn't mention is that no one leaves my driveway with chicks that isn't told to call if they have any questions or problems...you might have considered doing that! I would have appreciated the "Heads Up"

I don't buy birds at chicken swaps or auctions, but they told me it was quite likely that a wild bird carrying the disease flew in my barn and pooped and it spread from there. It's also possible that someone brought it to me on their shoes. So it was not my fault and could happen to anyone. I will be practicing strict Bio Security from now on, which can only help..but it is still possible that a wild bird was the cause, and all the Bio Security measures will not stop them from spreading the disease.

Again, I'm very sorry it happened to one of my customers..I take good care of my customers!

I am starting to re-stock now and am being VERY careful with where the birds are coming from!
