I have now covered the area they were pecking, but I am wondering when I can start to eat the eggs again. I stopped eating them for fear of lead. Gosh, so upsetting. They just started to lay. It was peeling off the neighbor's fence. I have blocked off that area now.

I'm thinking that I am just being paranoid. Would three weeks be decent enough of a wait to allow the chickens to purge?

The chickens seem fine. No ill effects. They seem healthy as ever.

I think you should be alright. Most likely the chips will pass right thru the birds' system and come out intact.
