my chicken did her egg song but no egg??

i heard my chicken make her egg song earlier and i just had a chance to check for her egg right as i put them in their coop, and there is no egg. should i be concerned?

Sometimes they have a burp. They may feel like an egg passed but just gas. Some of my chickens do that too. And start yelling there egg song for nothing.

Predator alarm/warning can also sound like an egg song to human ears...

Has daylight been shortening? Possibly transitioning to not laying, I know quail hens still sing for the first few weeks when their laying slows.

I can't tell you how many times I've went to check after a supposed egg song and came up empty handed. No worries. Mine do that out in the yard for reasons unknown to me. And some lay in ninja mode.

Mine sometimes serenade each other with egg song (without having laid an egg) or seem to be cheering along whoever's in the nest box....it can be hilarious.

How old are they? Molting? It's the season for a lot of hens to slow down/ stop for awhile. Egg laying for most depends on the # of daylight hours, and we are gradually headed for the least amount for the year in the Northern hemisphere. December 21 is the shortest day, gradually lengthening to the longest day on June 20, then back again. Their machines take a rest for the winter, and crank back up in the spring.

Some of my girls never do the egg song as the egg song. When I hear them doing it, it's the danger song. Sounds very similar but faster. The ones who do sing after they've laid an egg make a trill for the danger noise. Sometimes, if someone is too long in the best nest box, the waiters will get the egg song going right outside the box. By the time several of them join in it's pretty loud. Their logic is weird, how would all that noise make the egg get laid quicker? If anything, it slows the layer down
