My chicken sang the egg song!

The egg song? Sorry if I sound really dumb, but I had to ask, what is the egg song?

like when a hen makes that "clucking noise" before she lays an egg?

She sings a little different song than my girls do. Yours goes "buk, buk, buk, gabaw", while mine go "GABWAK, buk, buk buk, buk". Mine sing 4 buks following a very loud gabawk, instead of 3, while yours put the "buk" first and there's no "k" on the end of gabaw. Plus, the British gabaw isn't especially loud.

But, all of my girls sing the very same song! How about yours? Maybe it's the difference in the British accent vs American.

Quote: this post has made me giggle! I didnt think accents would affect chickens....! my silkies do a quieter song which is slightly different but its hard to tell how it goes as the others join in and drown them out! I cant wait to hear what my two red sex links will sound like but they are only 3months old so a little bit of waiting left before they start!

Oh sure ... absolutely. You should hear Italian chickens sing the egg song. It sounds a lot like La Traviatta, except the words are the same old "gabwak" and "buk". But, they do it to the tune of La Traviatta, like in the cartoons.

I don't get the squatting thing. Or the egg song. Do you mean they cackle a lot because they want to lay an egg. My barred rock gets noisy before she goes in and lays an egg. I did see one chicken do the squat thing and didn't think anything of it at the time. I hope my New Hampshires start laying pretty soon. They are 21 weeks.
