MY CHICKENS ARE KILLING EACH OTHER!!

Being an avid hunterand doing the re search on local predators both land and airi have learned to recognize scenes from different predators granted all s enes are different but if you study the pattern of evidence it will lead you to one or the other this is the strangest behavior ive witnessed out of theses chickens

Somebody please help my flock of tw years has suddenly went into killing frenzy three dead and two wounded in 24hrs dont know what to do
Usually there is one instigator. Remove him and most likely your problem will be solved. One usually get things started. I kind of had this happen recently except I think one of the males in my bachelor coop and pen was injured either because he was knocked off of the roost or because he fell off of it, either way the other cockerels started beating him up. I saw them standing over him and as soon as he would move they would attack him. I took him out. No more fighting. I also re-homed the rest. Just my opinion.

Thank you for responces i know that one of them is instigater they all seperated now still gonna have to figure which is the culprit but if i dont figure out then ill have to start over with new flock thank you all

Found my aggressor and it is not the rooster it is one of the oldest hens after researching interweb and talking to other farmers the one the that keeps popping is sometimes incubated chickens may have a temperture change during incubation causing transgender but not completely such as a hen with testosterone and that this sort of testosterone. May not show up until bird reaches full maturity. The hen in question has just turned two after watching this hen yesterday tring to get to others through fence i realized this may be the case

Only give the scratch feed as a treat now and then, stick to grower or layer pellets mainly.
Too much protien, they need balanced feed to develope and lay
It's not normal to loose two out of five of those breeds with that size pen at that age.
They may not be getting the right nutrition which will cause them to go weak and be eating each other.
Disease they would all be dead by now as well as predators who tend to kill them all in one night.
Always buy the best feed and correct formula as they are growing.
Let me know how you make out.

I had a hen that was the alpha too. She would beat up the younger birds and she had a partner that would get involved when she did. I did remove them and put them in jail for awhile. I put them back after a couple weeks in jail and they started in again so I put them back in jail for another couple of weeks. Blue was my main instigator and Violet was second. After the second round in jail I put them back in the flock and Blue was still aggressive but Violet was better. I cut a second pop door in the coop because I had the feeders inside the coop and Blue would stand in the doorway and not let the other in to eat so I also put a hanging feeder and waterer under cover in their run so Blue couldn't stand guard over everything. When she got the chance she would attack one of the younger gals and one day while she was on one of the others I had a hose at the coop. She didn't even know I was there as she was so intent on beating up one of the pullets. I squirted her good with the hose and really startled her. She ran in to the coop and didn't come out for quite awhile. I made a habit of going out to the coop many times a day. I caught her several more times beating up on one of the others. Each time I would squirt her with the hose (it was a 3/4 hose with a fire nozzle on the end) so it would squirt pretty hard and far. If she saw me she would get off and run. She did eventually slow up but every once in awhile she would beat up on one of the others. Eventually I had a lot of birds, mostly males, I needed to get rid of so I took them to an auction. I took Blue too. Life was good after that.

We have 15 birds. Suddenly it seems, they are ganging up on one bird and pecking her. I know they are killing her - why why why??
I don't know why. I have had the same things in the past. One time it was 2 of my older hens beating up on the pullets. I eventually took the hens to an auction. Recently I had males around 7 months old beating up on one male. He had somehow hurt one of his legs and was hopping around so I think the others sensed he was hurt and took advantage of him. I took the male out that was being beat up and put him in a cage until he healed. In the mean time I found someone to take the other males. I still have the one that was being beat up, he is well now but he is going to go too as I need the space he is in. One time my Buff Orpington girls were ganging up on a BO gal in their coop and pen. They had her almost featherless. I took her out and put her in with my RIR's and they accepted her. I had sprayed her with Blu-Kote so she was blue. When she grew in her new feathers she was beautiful. Sometimes if you put the one being picked on in another coop and pen it works. I wasn't sure what would happen but it worked for me. I have completely switched the birds around and put them in different coops and pens then the new coops and pens were new to everyone and the pecking stopped. Good luck. I hope you find a solution.
