DANG, what weather!

The high yesterday was like 55, and the low was in the high 30's. This is unreal for September, sheesh.

I took my pullets out yesterday and they HUDDLED. Red was ok, but Fussy, with her massive amount of feathers, is not as hot blooded. Gave them some scratch, covered the wind side of the pen, and they still huddled. It WAS cold, I felt for them.

Poor Fussy, as I was leading them out this morning, she didnt wanna go. She wandered round the kitchen, and was VERY reluctant. After not hesitating the whole time it was over 100, give her 40's and she says...I am staying IN! Lordy, its gonna be a looooong winter...

It was 43 or 44 here at my house in N. Ga this morning with highs around 72. This is really chilly for even this mountain area I live in during Sept. Heck, it's still summer!

I'm about to re-divide by big coop by putting a door in the opening between the original coop and the 12' addition and move Suede and the Suede-ettes into the 8x8 side. They'll be warmer in there and it will be easier for me to do chores, etc, with one less coop to worry about.

The Ameraucanas are in that little hexagonal coop we built recently and they don't have insulation or heat in there. Hope they do okay; I think they will as long as the winter isn't the horrible thing some are predicting it to be.
Suede's coop is going back to being the nursery coop then so I can hatch some little ones for myself in the spring.

Guess I better buy my ceremonial Fall flannel shirt now. I get a new one every fall to celebrate. Hope we have a fall and don't just barrel into winter!

Yea, thats what I am afraid of, barreling straight into winter. We didnt have much of a spring, just barreled straight into summer. I NEED my mid-seasons!!!!

I love spring and fall and have been deprived, darnit!!!

Oh, Cyn, you wouldnt believe these chicks. They have MORE personality than any chicks I have EVER seen. Oh and Lily is now officially buddies with Dash. I took Dash out and Lily started crying. :aww

Yippeeee!

WOW the difference is amazing, we were up in the 90's yesterday or pretty dang close, our "LOW" last night was 61!

Light frost this morning around 5:00am. Winter is coming and the girls know it, they have been packing the food down for the last few days.

Here in Minnesota we had our first frost of the season, friday night, had to cover the plants and all, spent sunday picking the vegies on the plants that didnt get covered as the plants are dying. It was the first night I had to completely shut up the coop for the chickens. (they have a special modified screen door I have left open all summer long for air) It was nice and warm in there for them but I opened it up saturday morning at 8 am and they were all excited to get out in the cold. Go figure.

As for winter, I have this sinking feeling that winter is going to come early for us, just a hunch I have. I have been spending all my extra time getting things ready for the winter. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Only time will tell but I just have this feeling fall will not be long......<sigh>

A week ago it was in the mid 80's now it feels like October, I keep thinking that next month is christmas. hehe
