My chicks are MIA:box found:all doa -Update: new order shipping Monday

I have only ordered from Ideal and have never had any problems with them. And really to be honest (dont take this the wrong way because I never want any to die) If you lose one baby in shipment that is lucky. These little guys have never ate and they get put into a box sent on airplanes and trucks and whatever else, get jostled around and get a wide range of temps. Really when you think about it, its a wonder any of them make the trip at all. I pray that all little ones get where they are going safe and alive, but unfortunatly they don't. I really dont think you should write them off because they didnt tell you how to save your baby. He might have been weak before he left Texas, you never can tell. I am sure they get hundreds of calls from people after every hatch saying they lost babies, all they can do is give you credit, and with all the variables who says they should have to. They take the brunt for the post office and really they shouldnt have to but they do. I am sorry for all of you who have lost little ones weather it be this week or ever. I love my birds just as much as all of you guys, but Ive come to the light of knowing when you have living things, you will lose them. I have had many orders from Ideal and have luckily only lost one baby in shipment.

I don't know that this helps at all, because anytime one dies it is sad, but even hatching them out in the bator and moving them directly to a controlled, heated brooder I have still had the random one die. I have had them die in the first day or so under mama. Sometimes they make it out, but just don't make it.

I also hope there has been a problem in house with your order and that the chicks are fine. I had a similar thing happen with MPC. Turned out that they had not shipped the chicks at all (despite the "hey, your chicks will be there on X day" confirmation email). Fingers crossed that the same thing has happened to you.

I have ordered from ideal twice and I lost a chick and they refunded my money no problems. and everytime that I have called them they have always been nice.I will definately order from them again....

You would think they could come up with a better shipping method...
I cant stand the thought of those little babies dying of thirst and hunger and freezng cold. Not a good way to die... They REALLY need to come up with a better way to ship...even if it costs the buyer more monry...the risk just isnt worth it. IMO..

I lost one chick and it was tramatic for me(this was my first order and it was from Ideal)...my stepmom told me that as a rule of thumb she treats all hatchery chicks with antibiotics(the cheap powdered stuff generic for all farm animals...I got mine at the tractor supply for CHEAP!) She does this for the first two weeks! I started treating my babies and haven't lost any since! I also do the vitamins in the water too. It's kind of a pain in the tush b/c you have to dump it and start fresh every morning but to me it's worthwhile. I'm NOT a big fan of medicine and don't like the notion of treating without symptoms but I guess the hatchery babies could "possibly" be exposed to way more that a normal backyard flock. Anywho...just a thought...I will never attempt hatchery babies without it! Blessings, Keri PS. The customer service was nice & they did offer to replace or refund my money!

If you mix vitamins and medication in the same water then the vitamins make the medicine loose it's affectiveness. Just like when the Doctors tell us humans not to take some medications (particularly antibiotics) with vitamins.

I think companies have been shafted too many times to do this.

I worked for a company who stopped using COD because you could not trust the delivery people to collect the money/check. When they did received a payment, they never checked to see if the documentation was correct. We would receive checks with no signatures, etc.

Hey what the heck! Why shouldn’t these hatcheries be as testy as they want and why should they care. They already have your no refund money, and they are only chickens and you can always get more. And hey what a great time of the year to order chicks, it makes it just that more exciting. It’s so very cold and it is snowing. It’s just like Christmas and there is nothing like opening that box and finding all those frozen dead chicks. Just ask me I know. Am I mad.....don't stand too close to me.

I will never, ever order chicks this way again. There has to be a better way in this country to ship animals. Or you just buy the best you can locally. That takes time and investigation. However, the experience for you and the animal has got to be 100% better than the above.

Plus, routinely giving antibiotics when there is no reason to, builds a resistance for when you really need them.
