Sending anything through the mail is a risk. There are so many hands involved. There could be dishonest people who decided they wanted chicks. You could have people who don't care about their job and jossel them too much. You have truck drivers, airline people, the PO people themselves, and maybe even the people at the hatchery itself handling them roughly. I think there are too many factors to place blame on any one entity. The postal service is made up up thousands of people and between Texas and either coast they come in contact with many people, not to mention the weather on the east coast lately. A storm here will slow down traffic everywhere because somewhere, one has to compensate by rerouting traffic.

The loss is terrible and very sad, for sure, but we don't know for sure exactly how or where they were lost. I've heard of chicks being fed and watered because of storms and then sent on their way again. Don't give up hope until you know for sure. Ideal will replace them and then Ideal or you can report the loss to the Postal Service.
