my chicks from cackle are here

LA~Poulet :

I was very polite and simply wanted to let them know they might have a problem with some of their stock. They blew me off.

I got the exact same impression when I told them that whoever I spoke to on the phone with my concerns about shipping on the Wed. before the 4th of July told me that my chicks were being sent out "2 Day and would definitely arrive on time, no worries". The response was that I must have misunderstood, "their representatives know how shipping works, of course" I felt like they were talking to me as if I was ignorant, when I have a very good understanding of how USPS delivery schedules work b/c I have an online business and 99% of my products ship that way. She also assured me that Priority always arrives in 2 days, and it is 'very rare' for it to take 3 days, and not longer. I ship Priority all the time and know that just isn't the case.

I haven't ever gotten chicks until the third day after ship.

People in large cities or close to them might (airmail) but not out in the sticks.

they must think we're idiots.

i did call and let them know how many i have lost so far.. they said to call again on monday.... and let them know the total i have left *sigh* they said they may have to do a reship.... which is fine by me.. but i wonder if i have to pay shipping again? we have 9 left so far... lost 6

I am so sorry you lost some of your babies, that is so sad!!
I wanted to say that Cackle Hatchery worked for me. I ordered two batches of chicks from them this spring and with the first batch one had that awful splayed legs and the other little one was extra tiny, I lost both of those babies, they were all cochin bantams teeny chicks to start with imagine extra teeny!

The second batch out of 15 they gave 2 extra chicks and they are all ok. They were pleasant and helpful when speaking with them on the phone, I can't imagine you receiving such poor service!

i havent recieved poor service.. just wish i havent lost so many! we are now up to 7 gone... the brooder temp is good... water is warm with sugar in it.. and sulmet.... i have another 2 that are acting ify.. the others are bouncing off the walls

wow, me too! I ordered 20 bantams. I DOA and 8 more gone since then. All of my Polish are gone and I am left with a couple Silkies, their substitutions and some extras they put in that are not bantams. The ones that are still alive all have poopie butts that I am continuing to battle. soooo sad!

cackle is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! i really wish people would not order from them. I had 3 friends order from them this year and out of the combined 65 chicks....14 were DOA and several more were lost a few day's later.

Im sorry for you DOA....just keep everything as clean as you can and really keep a watchful eye on the other sickly ones.

OMG it's so sad to read how many chicks people have lost from this hatchery...and then to be treated like an idiot on top of it...

Even though I'm new to chicks, I do know that they will die from time to time in transit (my hatchery warned against telling your kids how many you were getting, and to not open the box in front of them, just in case) ...it's just inevitable that a few might not make it...but the fact that so many people are losing chicks a few weeks after tells me they're not that strong to start with. I agree, everyone should know about Cackle & their poor record/customer (no)service.

I'm so thankful my 6 all arrived healthy & frisky from mypetchicken.com. They were mailed by Express from Maine on a Monday, and I got a call at 6:30 Wednesday morning that they were at the post office waiting for me. I do live in a very small town...basically the sticks

I'm so sorry for your losses...

From what I was told from the fellow who sold it to me, it is a type of (sorta) sedative to clam the birds from stress and change in environment from the shipping and such-so I said so Im putting my babies on valium? he said sorta! They are great now-haven't lost anymore and I had 9 pasty butts today though:-( I dont do well with pasty butt-I used to wash them and soak them and it took for ever to pick it away with Q-tips. I got myself a super sharp narrow pair of hair scissors and I cut the poop right off- yes with some butt feathers but the problem is solved in one fell swoop. I never have to deal with it after that-the feathers grow in and you never know I cut them! It takes seconds compared to 10-15 mintues apiece. Alot less stressfull to them too!
