my chicks from cackle are here

Im so sorry-I ordered 5 polish and I got 6 and those are the very hearty healthy ones-all my cochins are good too-yes pasty butts-but read my post on page 3 about how I deal with pasty butt-fast and quick!

I get them completely clean. I soak them good and then tear everything off - including feathers but they are right back stuck to there rear the next day. In fact I am on my way out right now to pull turds again. They arrived on Saturday so they are a week old tomorrow. How long do you think the poopies will last? They were all alive this morning (first morning I haven't lost one) Maybe I am in the clear. I have 20 more coming from mypetchicken Aug 3rd. hopefully I will have better luck with that group...

How old are yours?

hmm today would mean they are day 6-7. I noticved the pasty butt last night and got he scissors out this am and went to town-No washing-no water. I clip away until I know where their vent is-then I clip on top of vent and all below-weather it has poop on it or not. That way when they do squat and squirt it hits the ground and not anymore butt fluff...Right down to there skin-I have never cut them or made them bleed-try this on one and see how it goes?? I hate pasty butt..

I knew I had to do something that was fast and easy to get it over with because I KNEW I was not going to wash 20 butts everyday. I've done this with 4 batches so far-once it's done I never have to worry about it or do it again...

just a quick follow up - I called Cackle, got through on the third try, only held for about 5 minutes. Told them 8 died. She wanted to know how many were DOA and I said one, then two more an hour later.

They only replace/refund for chicks that are DOA and since they sent 2 extra they said we are even.

She was super nice. Next time-take that back. No next time. But I should have said 8 were DOA.

It bothers me that the last poster had a customer service person say it was just not thier fault and blame the customer.

I ordered from mypetchicken.com - and not to sound like a commercial - they were wonderful!

I only ordered 3 chicks and that was what I got - they were healthy and playful and did really well. Till my dog got into the pen. I lost one - it was my fault not the dogs for being dim about his interest and playfulness. Zephy doesn't even look at the chicks anymore. Or Else he gets a squirt of water.

Today I got a call - they are short on my order (4 chicks total) 1 chick - I ordered a golden laced wyandotte and they were out of silver laced ones - Which breed would I prefer and she read me the list - spoke to me with knowledge of about them - At first I said the Buff Orpington but she said that they are really feathery and the heat might not be a good mix - Seriously she didn't rush me at all. I chose a plymouth barred rock about 10 minutes later. She had a long list to choose and we discussed each one. She said they were literally placing them in a box right then and she said they were really cute......

My last batch of 3 came in a small box with like a hand warmer bag and some gelatenous green gunk in a bunch of pine shavings that looked like easter grass.

My mailman tried to be nice and deliver them to my house but my elderly dad did not hear him knock so the chicks road his whole route. I got some frantic calls from the stationmaster to come and get them. I think she was afraid they were all going to bite the dust after their 5 hours in a hot car. They were just fine.

They say sometimes they will add an extra but they understand that their customers are small flock or urban - suburban chicken keepers and an extra just might tip the scale as to what the customer can handle.

Seriously, I am a customer for life!

So yesterday my order from mypetchicken arrived, one day faster than my Cackle order. All are still alive. 10 ass. exotic and 10 ass. bantams. all female (fingers crossed) only one looked sluggish but shes still kicking this a.m. so I am hopeful. After losing 8 with my Cackle order I have to say it was worth the extra Mypetchicken charges for shipping to see that heat pack and all of them alive. Now I have 40 chickens. ohhh and I hear Gwen laying an egg. Gotta go - time for breakfast!

These posts make me feel good. I have an order scheduled to ship from MPC next Monday. Thanks for the feedback everyone! This is my first time ordering chicks through the mail and I've been nervous about it.

Yep...MPC rocks! Ordered 8 Faverolles, they arrived on time and all were healthy. There was only one runt in the group, but she is fine and has turned into quite a bossy little chick.
