I ordered 40 straight run Barred Rocks from Meyer Hatchery and they said they'd arrive Wed 22nd through Fri 24th. When they didn't come on Friday, I called the hatchery, who said they were sent on THURSDAY. Dang it! Now my chicks are sitting all day today (Sunday) in some post office somewhere without food, water or proper heat. When they come tomorrow we'll see how many survived - I'm really ticked off.

Meyer just said I had 48 hours from arrival to call for replacement chicks or refund, whichever I choose. I'm in Santa Cruz, CA and Meyer is in Texas, so the temps won't be too bad, but they'll be weak (or dead) from four days without water. I'm really going to give Meyer a piece of my mind if even one chick is DOA.

Well, the hatchery sent them on Thursday when they were supposed to send them Monday or Tuesday for a Wed - Fri delivery date. If they don't send them until Thurs, then there's no way they'll get where they're going until after the weekend. I fault Meyer for that. If I need replacement chicks, I'll tell them: send them on a Monday or don't send them at all. I don't want to go through this again.

Did you call the post office on Friday and ask the manager to have them call your immediately when they come? The post office continues to move the mail on the weekends even when the post offices are closed to the public and there is no delivery. I have read posts on here in the past of people getting calls on the weekend and being able to pick up the chicks at the back door.

I guess if you are so upset, blame the chickens for not hatching out of the egg on Monday. Hatchery ships the eggs the day they hatch, they may have planned on Monday but had a late hatch for some reason. Everyone whines that the hatchery is to blame, the PO is to blame but they don't look in a mirror. Who ordered the chicks in the Winter months? I order in April, always have and have never had a problem shipped all the way to Alaska. I've gotten my chicks at the PO distribution center, they've called at 5am on a Sunday. I know of a Pilot who flies into the villages and delivers chicks out there in April and they arrive alive, again it's warmer in April then it is in February. Take some personal responsibility for the chicks health, you ordered them.
