My coop build

Great coop - functional and classy! I love that it looks like a house. I am wondering if there are more pictures and if you have plans available yet?!

Thanks everyone. It has been raining here for almost the last week so I have not really got much done on it. I will post some new stuff once I get a little more completed. I will put up the complete plans once I am done, since some things are getting modified as I go.

The nest boxes were pretty simple. I will sketch those and post those plans later tonight for you.

stayathomedad - per your request here are some general plans for the nest boxes.

You will need the following cuts of lumber:
3 - 2x4s 7.5' long
1 - 1x4 7' 4.5" long
2 - 1x12s 7.5" long
1 - 1x12 8' long
1 - 1x4 8' long
2 - 1x12 end pieces see picture
5 - 1x12x12 dividers (for 6 boxes)

Basically you use 1 2x4 on the base, screw the bottom 1x12 into it edge to edge, then put the end pieces on, then the front 2x4 which acts as a catch so the eggs can't roll out the front. Put the back on, then dividers inside. Now put the 1x4 that is 7' 4.5" long on the front top of the dividers, then the 2x4 in front of that at the top. Put the lid on. Pretty much it. Sorry if it is not too clear, it will be more complete when I post the plans. See the quick picture I put together and you should figure it out pretty quick.

Haven't been online for a few days and just found this post. Love the coop and especially the nest boxes. We are ready for another coop and your design is great.
One question though - does jarhead have the same meaning as it does for my gunny?

Tell Gunny - Semper Fi! carwinew. I think it is a pretty good coop, although if I was doing it again I would probably modify a couple of things. Nothing big though, the base design would stay the same (I think that way about everything I build though). I hope to finish completely by the end of the week (if the weather stays nice). When I do I plan on doing a write up and post the plans in the coop section. I will detail all the plans there, and you can build on of your own if you like.

As for my Jarhead name, here is the story.
I was a modern day Marine and served my time in the early 90s during the first Gulf War era. Most of the guys that were my age had more contemporary hair cuts. I being the respectful Devil Dog traditionalist that I am, kept my hair cut in the older style horseshoe high and tight flat top. That lead my buddies to call me by the term Jarhead. It also garnered me much respect from my elder Marines. Now I will tell you that used wrong that word can be an insult, but coming from those guys it was a term of kinship and respect. Don't get me wrong there were times when someone (usually Army or Navy) would call me, or any of us, Jarhead in a way that made me what to rip off some heads, but I had enough self control that I let it go (unless they persisted)

Anyway I still have a few people that call me Jarhead in a loving way, so the name just kind of stuck.

I always liked JAX, always have a nice feeling when I am there. Before I moved to Arkansas I lived in Jupiter, Fl a little further down I-95 from you.

Carla - It was my pleasure to serve our great country. Thank you for your thanks.
