This is my goose, Miss Nelson. I think it's a miss anyway lol. Shes not quite a month old yet, but she is just the most amazing little goose ever, and I love her to pieces already

This is the day she hatched in my little home made incubator

This one was day 2 or 3 I think

This one was just too cute not to include

This was yesterday, which is just a few days shy of a month, and I just can't believe how huge she is

HEADLESS GOOSE!!!!!

I have a few questions about this whole goose raising business, and I'm hoping that some of you can give me some good advice. Many thanks in advance :)

1. Can anyone tell me with any certainty what breed this is? I'm almost certain she's a Toulouse, but I would like to be sure. I just noticed you can't see her tail feathers, but they're coming in the same greyish brown color as the ones above her wing, only mixed in with a fair amount of white as well.
2. Her feet were noticeably darker when she was small and she's peeled once and now you can kind of see that her feet are partly a yellowish beige color and dark on the web and parts of the toe things. Is this normal? If she is Toulouse, her feet will turn orange right? Is this just a random in-between color?
3. I plan to keep feeding her the Dumor brand chick starter that shes on now, but reducing the protein to like 10% until she's about 2 - 2 1/2 months. She eats grass and weeds and things daily when we go play in the yard, plus fruit on occasion, and of course grit is always available outside(added sand in some of our favorite areas). I'm wondering, 1. Is this a good diet for her? and 2. What do I feed her after I take her off the starter? I've heard pellets of some kind and a lot of grazing time will do the trick.
4. If you look close at the bottom picture, the bottom part of her wing is a very odd, almost silver color with no down and where the feathers are trying to come out looks really bizarre. Is that normal? Or could something be wrong with her wings. I find myself in constant worry over her wings, weather its this or angel wing worries, which leads me to my next question.
5. Are there signs to look for angel wing before the feathers come in and stick out to the side? She has them tucked up most the time, but sometimes they sit oddly. Am I over thinking this? How common is angel wing?

I think I had more questions, but this is all I can think of for now. I'll add any others I think of later, and again, thanks a million in advance to anyone kind enough to help me out.

Miss Nelson looks a lot like a Toulouse. She is likely a crossbreed from what I have read on other threads about her. Not slamming the gosling by calling her a crossbreed. Just stating a possibility. Crossbreeds are just as wonderful as pure breeds just have the added bonus of surprise. Never know with what you will end up.

Her feet will likely turn orange eventually. It takes a few months to make the complete change. I feed mine flock raiser and cut the protein with oats. My geese have grazing time from about 7 a.m. till dusk. The color on the wing is the flight feathers coming in. Soon you will see feathers. Don't be alarmed if your gosling has a hard time holding up the wings for a few days as they grow the feathers. That is normal. If the wing tip bends and sticks out from the body that would be angel wing. If that were to happen there is a lot of good info on hear about how to take care of it. Your gosling looks fine. I see no angel wing.

Trust me I felt the same way last year when I first got goslings. I felt like a new parent all over again. I never worried about chicks or ducklings like I have my goslings. I am currently up to 7 geese. Only 2 or 3 are to be permanent residents. Boris a 1 year old American Buff gander, Martha an 11 week old (female) American Buff gosling and possibly, Mary another 11 week old American Buff gosling(supposed to be female but I am skeptical).

Enjoy Miss Nelson while in the fluffy gosling stage. They grow so fast!

I don't take offense at the crossbreed comments. I'll love her just the same. I'm glad to know that the wings and feet things are normal. Being my first goose I'm incredibly worried that I'm doing the right things for her. I know it's always better to have them in pairs, and I'm working on getting her a little goose friend, though I may end up getting a duck...I just can't decide

A goose friend would be better but a duck will do. My gander was raised with ducks and geese. He does not care for the ducks now. He used to get along just fine with them. If there were no geese around he would accept them. Geese really prefer their own kind. My gander acts like he hates me but he follows me everywhere. Geese remind me of goats with feathers.

They have so much personality.

Does it matter if they aren't the same breed? I really want a sebastopol if I'm going with another goose. And since I don't know if I have a girl or boy, any suggestions on what sex I should get?

I have a Toulouse goose and an Embden gander to me they will have beautiful goslings. the best of both parents. What you want will decide which to get, if you want eggs only then have 2 females if you want goslings then go with a pair. Since you don't know what Miss Nelson is if you get a gosling friend it will be a surprise what they turn out to be.

I would LOVE to have goslings, but I think that would lead to me ending up a crazy goose lady lol. I would never be able to part with them. So that leaves me with getting another female, but then I don't know what to do with the eggs though....

Plus just my one gosling is a handful by herself, I can't imagine having a whole bunch. Although thinking about it, a bunch of fluffy nelson juniors would be amazing

Nothing wrong with being a crazy goose lady lol i went from hatching/raising two goslings last june to buying 8 more full grown adults this spring and hatching 15 goslings out of those. 25 altogether plus one goose setting on 15 eggs due this weekend. I thought rabbits multiplied quick lol
With 4 different species and 55 birds everywhere i look i see feathered friends lol the neighbors look at me like a freak when i walk to the barn surrounded by a sea of birds walking with me.
