As a mother of 5, I can reassure you that she will be fine! I know it makes you feel terrible when something like this happens, but at the same time, I feel inclined to tell you that this won't be the last time. We have been through MANY stitches, broken bones, scratches, scraps, you name it! It just all part of growing up and learning about the world around you. And, as the old saying goes, kids will be kids!

Sorry for your pain though.

As a kid, I had concussions on a regular basis. Liked to climb trees and used my head to cushion the blow when I fell out of them.

I seem to be okay, but maybe some of my co-workers would disagree...

When I was a kid I knew the hospital emergency room staff on a first name basis....ALL THREE SHIFTS.

Can't wrap your kid in bubble wrap.

Head wounds bleed like they cut their head clean off don't they?

It's when the fall over and DON't cry that freaks me out.

The one that scare me when there is initially silence then screaming. You know it hurts just from the sound. There is that long indrawn breath, held momentarialy, then that horrible cry that says it all. One broken arm, staples on the head, and more scrapes and bruises than you can count. The most recent was the object lesson in why Mommy doesn't allow open toed shoes on the scooter....man that toe looks ugly. I owe my mom, big time, because I now know what she went through with two accident prone kids. Only one of mine has managed the emergency room.

It's really scary the first time there is big blood, and you have my sympathy. The hundredth time is much easier.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I am sure the ice cream made it all better right?

She will be fine. Next time, play with the doggies in the grass so its not so bad if she does fall again. How old? You can also explain to her about catching herself if she is around 3-4. My son learned around 3. Its ok mommy, kids will be kids and this accident was unpreventable.

What is it with big dogs and little kids??My son when he was 3 was holding the leash of my sisters. 100 lbs dog..Why did we let him. Well the dog took off running son did not let go. Dog ran him into a OPEN tailgate of the truck. It ripped his nose smashed the back of is head on the pavement. BLOOD everywhere I was freaking DH was in Iraq. Let say when we got to the hospital my shirt was on backwards and inside out.. I was in my Pjs when it happened. Lets just say this son has had staples in his head stiches in his face twice, they are tougher then we are. It is the moms job to drive herself crazy and feel bad, and think of all the things that could happen. I am very glad you little one is ok. The mind can be a awful thing when it runs overtime.

I only have one (now grown) daughter, but she did enough bleeding, scraping, puncturing, and falling for three. Among the better: getting bit on the face by a friend's dog (teeth holes in hairline and cheek .. big dog, big chomp); dropping a ceramic dog dish on her foot and opening up a humongous cut; getting kicked in the thigh by her then (and eternally nasty) pony; turning cartwheels off her mare at a horse show. By then, I was so blaise about the whole kid-trying-to-do- damage-to-herself thing that all I could do was laugh as jump rails scattered like so many tooth picks. Even the daughter was laughing.

She came by it all honestly, or apples don't drop far from trees. Something like that. I'm still a disaster, especially when out running trails .. no sooner do I look up to see a pretty bird than WHEEEEE! Airborne!! One time not long ago, I came trotting back down the road looking like a train wreck .. blood streaming down both legs and one arm.

I will admit, the worst with kids are the hard smacks to the head followed by that long LONG inhale followed by a heartbreaking cry. Those are the ice cream accidents.

Did she have to get stitches? Or did you just put a butterfly bandage on it? Isn't there something you can put on facial injuries so they don't leave a scar? :aww

Ugh! That is the worst. It must be a rare kid that makes it to adulthood without getting a few bangs and bumps. My four year old has had his share of goose eggs and bloody noses. I've had to call poison control so many times I was afraid they were going to report me!
