saddina - where did you get the lentil chili recipe from?? Today sounds like a chili day... it's supposed to snow here tonight (already started in the mtns).
I've made it for som many years I stopped using a recipie:
1/2 lb ground beef or turkey
onion - diced
2 large cans of chopped tomatoes (28 oz size)
3 cloves garlic crushed
1/2 lb lentils (cook up faster than regular beans, i never remember to soak beans
) OR 2 cans black beans, or any beans.
tbsp paprika (if you've got the hungarian stuff this is the place)
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp BBQ sauce (secret ingredient)
at this point stop and taste, add chili powder or diced jalipineos if you need to spice it more, I add chilies at serving so the kids eat it too.
Directions
Brown the ground meat, drain and rinse off extra fat. Next brown the onion and garlic in the same pan (who wants to do more dishes?). Dumps the meat, onion, garlic, lentils or beans into a crock pot (or a big soup pot which ever) with a cup of water. cook 30 mins on the stove, or 2 hours in the crock pot. once a fork can get thru the beans easily, toss in the tomatoes, and spices, 2 more hours in the crock pot or 30 more mins on simmer. I like it served with a big salad and some oyster crackers.
