My Dog Is Infested With Ticks!

I’ve heard guinea hens are great for controlling ticks. Aren’t they really loud?

Yes they are! And when we butchered ours (20 or 30 years ago) I found out where all the sweet feed was going that I thought I was feeding to my horses! Gluttons they are! Gluttons, I say!

Lol, opossums do a really good job of eating ticks too, but I don't recommend them, either. Apologies to all the Guinea owners out there!

I have some updates! My mom groomed our schnauzer and he looks a bit like a rat. But he needs to be shaved short because we don’t want ticks hiding anymore. 5 ticks were pulled off of him! All of them attached. We drowned them but 2 of them were shaved in half.

They can be. They are also funny. As I said, I would like to have some but that isn't a possibility here.

Guinea fowl and opossums are good on the ticks. Opossums, from what I've heard, can eat up to 2,000 ticks in one night! Unfortunately, I can't have Guineas were I live. And I don't like Opossums. I found one with my bantams one time, and that was that for the little guy. (Plus I had thought it was a rat. It was dark out, and I didn't know what an opossum was, so that's probably why.) Guineas are noisy, but I don't mind. (I love the sound of roosters crowing and everything, so if the bird makes sounds, I love it. Sorry if I'm weird that way. )

It’s interesting how those animals can pinpoint exactly where each little tick is. That’s insane they can eat 2,000 in one night!

Be sure to check any tick type regimen you use as many are very bad for animals Frontline has killed lots of dogs and cats.
me personally I put a couple drops of peppermint oil somewhere on the coat I also take a bounce original dryer sheet and wipe them and myself down with it before we go out and I also carry that bounce dryer sheets in my pocket. I know it all sounds kind of odd but it’s worked beautifully. Not say it will work every time for everybody but so far it’s worked for me and our family very well. I am aware there are a few commercial ones out there that are suppos to be completely safe. I just haven’t had to look into them for so far this is worked for me

Another option for flea/tick prevention are once monthly oral tablets called Trifexis or Simparica and Simparica Trio. Both need to be purchased through your vet. Never purchase through 3rd party retailers, there are a LOT of fake products out there.

Hopefully once you get your dogs started on something you won't have this issue in the future.
