My dog just went crazy, what should I do?

Quote:
Euthanasia is the best thing for any dog that tries to bite, especially huge dogs. There is no other responsible choice for an aggressive dog.

Killing the guinea wasn't the best thing, but it wasn't the worst thing either. Dogs do have a natural predatory instinct because they did have to kill to eat in ancient times. LGDs don't usually have a high prey drive, but it can happen. It's just a "dog thing". But turning on you or trying to bite a human is not acceptable. A five pound biting dog is a problem. But a 105pound lunging, biting dog is more than a problem. It is too dangerous to be trusted.

I hope you are able to find the help you need... GPs are wonderful dogs.

this is not acceptable...this dog is out of control...she will do this again...I have a life time of experience with large dogs...she is in charge and eventually she will hurt you...it is just not something to play with or risk...there are so many good dogs out there that need homes...this one needs to go...I have rescued some good ones that could be rehabed and I have had three rescues who were insane and I euthanized them without hesitation...I love dogs...I live with four Dobermans, three of whom sleep on my bed and take every step with me...they would not dream of even thinking about biting me or turning a lip to me...this dog is too big to play with with that kind of attitude...I will say it again, she will hurt you...some dogs, like people, just aren't right and can not live with the rest of us...

I have worked with a lot of dominant dog in my work when I was a vet tech before my little girl was born and trained dog too. You are going to have to be dominant and pin the dog to the ground is the a good way to show who is boss. I have done it a lot an it does work but like I said before do not do it yourself if you do not know want you are doing. I have used a muzzle a few times if the dog was really dominate. A pinch collar is also a great training tool. Take the dog for train would be best if you can afford it does not sound like you are going to put her down so you need to get a handle on it. But that all I am going to say. Good luck

I hate to say this but...... you have waaaaayyyyy too much dog for your temperament. If you don't have a dominant personality and attitude with your animals, it is very difficult to train them to refrain from natural, instinctual behavior.

Either you stiffen your spine and be the alpha, or get a less dominant breed~ or less dominant GP.

First, NEVER is the dog allowed to chase a chicken. Ever. Period. Chickens and everything in your property line belongs to you, the alpha(or should be alpha dog)

Second, NEVER in a million years is it acceptable to growl at you nor display food aggression. I let my dogs do this to each other or other animals, if it's not excessive. A warning growl or lunge if someone is trying to get your food is normal to pack members of equal ranking. NEVER is it acceptable to the alpha dog. Alpha dog gets any food he/she wants....in the wild or in your yard.

Third, you have a very big dog who is already out of control....you can get all the trainers you want, but you will be the one living in the same yard as this dog, not the trainer. If you can't control it, ultimately, you should rehome it to someone who can.

Hard facts, but facts, nonetheless.

I'm sorry dear, I am a dog lover. Have my dog's picture tattooed on my back, will give away my house, my husband, my life, before I would let something happen to my dog. She keeps me alive, she is my heart.

BUT

if she were to be aggressive to me once. I'd check it out to see what was causing it. Hurt, in pain, fearful, all that I can understand. But aggression just to prove she is in control, that she is going to tell ME what she is gonna do. Not happening. I have an Aussie. You give an inch, they are taking the rest of the world!!!

I have told her, my husband, and my momma, if she were to start getting aggressive I can't risk that on my job. First time she bites me, is the last time she bites anyone. I will personally put her down. I will morn for years. She's the best dog I've ever had. But I am handler and she is dog. She needs to be in the dog place. If she can't do that, then she can't be with me. I will be the last face she see's when she goes to sleep. It's already arranged.
