@Miss Lydia
My Pekin duck has a hole in the pad part of the underneath side of the foot. It looks like a tiny hole with an area around it about the size of a dime that is swollen. The little hole was brown so I thought it might be a sticker. I soaked her foot in Epson salts for about 30 minutes then looked at it again. It was cleaner but didn't seem any better. I was able to clean the hole out with a needle (can't believe that duck sat still for all this!!) and got a little puss out but not enough to make up that much swelling. I cleaned it again, put Neosporin on it (without pain relief) and put a bandaid on her foot. I'll look again tomorrow.
My husband thinks that the area needs to be lanced, what do ya'll think?
Thanks for any advice.

@MandyJ Did you get the core out? the plug? If so then just keep soaking and applying the neo I think the clear iodine is better though.Mine is no better but no worse. Any ideas? I'm soaking it twice a day and then neosporin and bandaid. Not letting anyone out of their enclosure. They aren't happy!! Lol
I never got a "core", the little hole is still there it is brown, could be dirt in the hole, not really sure what it is. I used a needle the first day and got a little puss but not enough to cause the amount of swelling I am seeing. I squeezed the swelling gently last night and got nothing at all. I used clear iodine last night but stupidly didn't take a bandaid out with me. I tried to wrap her foot with vet tape, that was a disaster!!! So she went without anything last night. This morning she seems to be walking a little better, but I haven't soaked it this evening.@MandyJ Did you get the core out? the plug? Hydrogen peroxide is good for initial cleaning of a wound but it shouldn't be continually used because it can damage healthy skin. I have done both when I finally got the scab off of my hens foot once there was a pus core the next time it was just a hole. I just continued to soak her foot and use the clear iodine I did wrap but she got her foot so nasty with the wrap on I finally just took it off and kept up the treatments. Hard to say how long it will take for the swelling to go down. They Epsom salt should help with the swelling and inflammation.I never got a "core", the little hole is still there it is brown, could be dirt in the hole, not really sure what it is. Thanks for asking. Should I try hydrogen peroxide? The toe is still swollen. How long will it take for the swelling to go down, you think?
