You do not give many details. Was your duck born this way?? Was it due to predator attack?? Disease ?? Not sure what you should do? You can keep alive and duck will be able to live with one eye. Most likely will not fly very well. If you eat your ducks, then this one may be next in line.

I only keep chickens as pets, therefore I do not eat mine. I have one chicken now that is blind due to dog attack. This happened 15 months ago, and she is still going strong eating and drinking well. Will take care of her until goes to other side on her own. She is 10 1/2 years old. Here is a pix before the incident.

She looks the same as this, only that her eyes do not function any more. The eyes are there and open. Suspect spinal, or brain injury.

Sorry this didn't have much detail, this duck has always had both its eyes, only noticed it this morning so it must of happened yesterday evening or during the night. I can't see what would remove this ducks eye without causing anymore damage? There were no blood or feathers around the pen. I know crows remove eyes before eating its prey, but i can't see a crow attacking a live duck... I'm not aware of any diseases either it's just happened over night... She's spent all day just sitting on the floor sleeping. Not bothered with water or food. I've managed to clean around the eye but wondering if there is anything else I should do to help it, or will it heal over time... thanks

A good duck vet is best, and not always possible.

Weird accidents happen . . . sad for the injury.

There are medicated eye drops - I am not experienced with this kind of injury, but perhaps rinsing it five times a day with mild saline solution, and covering it to prevent dirt and flies from getting into it would be the way to go.

Vetericyn spray is great for cleaning out the eye area... Terramycin is good to ward off infection... just keep it clean, apply some ointment after cleaning and let her heal... hope she pulls out of it, sounds like she is in shock...

Also, I would get down low in your duck pen/house areas and look for any wire ends sticking out, nails, etc that she might have got injured by...

Thanks both! I will keep cleaning it, I got her to drink and feed a little bit this morning. Hopfully she will liven up soon.

Her eye seems to have reappeared, although when cleaning it a few days ago when i open the eyelid nothing was to be seen... she's still a bit sad, drinking fine but not so interested in the food

How is her weight? Is she eating enough to keep it maintained or is she getting really skinny?

*Might* need to look into tube feeding her if she is losing weight... I know, it sounds scary to do but it's not really... much easier than you'd think...

I've brought her inside the house today and put and bowl of water on the floor and put some food in which it sunk to the bottom and she ate it all up. This is the only way I've got her to eat as she doesn't eat out the feeder like she used to. After watching her for a few hours I think she maybe blind in the eye which was "effected". Has she seems to tilt her head in such a way to be using one eye. I've also noticed that she doesn't walk far and that if she does she spins in circles, Im guessing she's doing that to get a general sense of the surroundings. I still don't get why she's so stand-still... when ducks go half blind do they loose balance or confidence completely? Thanks
